Anova apartments at ucity square MULTI-USE BUILDING
CLIENT: GMH Capital Partners
TYPE: Multi-use Commercial
LOCATION: Philadelphia, PA
STATUS: Complete Spring 2021
The Stuart team was engaged for landscape architecture services for this 461 unit, six story multi-use building in the UCity district in Philadelphia, PA. We were tasked to refine the streetscape design, provide a technology driven amenity space, and foundation planting strategies for the architecture. Some of the technological aspects to this courtyard include outdoor work stations, movable furnishings for collaboration, power stations for charging all forms of technology, and various outdoor viewing platforms including televisions.
The courtyard and streetscape carry warm materials that tie the architecture into the Philadelphia fabric. Hints of bluestone at the street corners, concrete pavers carried into the courtyard, and clean saw-cut concrete walks around the building and within the courtyard. The streetscape is full of communal furnishings from wood benches to stainless steel bike racks. The almost enclosed courtyard overlooks Warren Walk and contains additional amenities such as a pool with a grand water feature that helps mitigate city sound.
The stormwater is managed by various bioretention strategies, two within the courtyard, and one along the streetscape. The GSI has been planted with native perennials, grasses, and shrubs that can withstand periods of inundation before being fully drained at the 72 hour mark.
